Help with MPX.

Find answers for importing music, playback, equalizer controls, music servers, CarPlay, library management, and common troubleshooting.

  • Start with locally accessible, non-DRM music
  • Import through Files or supported personal music servers
  • Use the same MPX library across EQ, playback, and CarPlay
Getting Started

Set up the basics first.

  • Grant Apple Music library access if you want MPX to read eligible device-library tracks
  • Eligible Apple Music tracks must be downloaded locally and not protected by DRM
  • Import files and folders through MPX when you want music outside the Apple Music library
  • After import, start playback and build your library around playlists, queues, and browsing
Importing Music

Bring in music from the sources you already use.

  • Import files and folders directly into MPX
  • Use iCloud Drive and other Files providers exposed through Apple Files
  • Access Google Drive and Dropbox through Apple Files
  • Use compatible NAS and network locations when they are available through Files
  • If you import the same music more than once from different sources, review your source selection to avoid duplicate library entries
Equalizer and Sound

Choose simple controls or go deeper.

  • Free 5-band EQ for everyday adjustments
  • Pro 10-band EQ for more detailed frequency control
  • Landscape frequency, gain, and Q controls for the same underlying EQ
  • Built-in presets, plus named custom presets with Pro
  • Dedicated Bass Boost and Volume Boost with Pro
  • Loudness Leveling for more consistent playback
Music Servers

Browse directly, then download before playback.

MPX supports Jellyfin, Navidrome, Airsonic, and compatible Subsonic servers. For the full setup and behavior model, see the Music Servers page.

  • Jellyfin
  • Navidrome
  • Airsonic
  • Compatible Subsonic servers
  • Music is downloaded before playback rather than streamed directly
Library and Playback

Manage what you want to hear next.

  • Search across your library
  • Create and use playlists
  • Build and reorder queues
  • Use favorites to keep common picks close
  • Resume playback where you left off
  • Edit metadata and artwork inside MPX for MPX presentation
CarPlay

Bring your MPX library into the car.

MPX supports CarPlay, and imported or downloaded music can be accessed through the MPX CarPlay experience.

Troubleshooting

Check the likely causes first.

  • Confirm the music file is accessible locally
  • Why does a song appear in MPX but not play? MPX may still see a track in the Apple Music library even when the downloaded audio file is no longer stored locally on the device. Re-download the song in Apple Music, then reload the MPX library if needed. If this happens repeatedly, review the iPhone Optimize Storage setting.
  • Confirm the track is not DRM-protected
  • Confirm Apple Files or server access is available
  • Confirm server URL and credentials when using a personal music server
  • Reload the MPX library when appropriate
  • Confirm the latest MPX version is installed
  • Restart the app or device when a transient playback or Files issue is suspected
FAQ

Common support questions

Why does a song not appear in MPX?

Check that the file is locally accessible to MPX, that it was actually imported or downloaded into the app, and that it is not blocked by DRM.

Why can't MPX import an Apple Music track?

MPX processes music through its own audio engine so it can apply EQ and other playback controls. That requires direct access to the underlying audio file. If Apple Music only exposes a track for streaming or keeps the downloaded audio protected, MPX cannot access the file for processing. Eligible tracks that are downloaded locally and available without DRM can be used in MPX.

Why can't MPX see Google Drive or Dropbox?

Those providers appear through Apple Files. If they are not available there, MPX cannot import from them.

Why can't MPX connect to my music server?

Recheck the server URL, credentials, and availability, then make sure the server is one of the supported families.

Does MPX stream from Jellyfin or Navidrome?

No. MPX browses supported servers directly, but selected music is downloaded before playback.

How do I reload my library?

Reload the MPX library when imports, permissions, or available storage sources have changed and you want MPX to look again for accessible music.

Does MPX support CarPlay?

Yes. MPX supports CarPlay for accessing and playing your imported or downloaded music collection.
